The Three Little Angels has a number of helpful tools for caregivers. The most important of these tools is education. While we could give you all the materials to hand out, nothing is gained if the caregiver does not know how to utilize the materials. The Three Little Angels Foundation offers educational trainings for caregivers that teaches people how to use the materials to encourage parents and how to access the materials themselves so as to have readily available information for families.

Trainings should be scheduled for a minimum of a 3-hour period and should include as many of the staff that may come in contact with bereaved families as possible.

Topics that will be discussed include:

• What to say and not to say
• How to encourage parents to "parent" their baby
• What if the parents say no?
• Dealing with extended family and a variety of religious and cultural practices
• Introducing and using the Special Care Package
• Taking good photos
• Bathing and dressing baby
• Aftercare

Little attention is focused on infant loss in nursing school and the chance that each caregiver will at some time during a shift have an infant death is almost certain. The best course of action is to be prepared. Have a plan for caring for each bereaved family. Know what to do and how to use the information provided by the Three Little Angels Foundation to help the family make the most memories and plan a precious goodbye.
